Religious Liberty Commission of the NCEASL

The Religious Liberty Commission (RLC) of the NCEASL was established in 1995, to safeguard the existing space for religious freedom in Sri Lanka, while continuing to lobby and advocate for wider recognition and implementation of the religious rights and freedoms of Sri Lankans. The escalation of violence and increase in religious intolerance has made this role all the more relevant. Over two decades of attacks against Christians, attempts to bring in laws curbing religious conversions, and closure of churches by authorities have posed serious threats and challenges to Christians, restricting and totally denying their religious rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Sri Lanka.

The Religious Liberty Commission (RLC) continues to engage in monitoring, investigation and documentation through site visits and research on incidents of violence and intimidation against Christians as well as discriminatory laws, procedures and circulars. Additionally the RLC focuses its attention on other relevant issues such as political trends and developments, media trends etc.
